The Bishop McCort Cheerleading program was honored yesterday at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg for winning the PIAA Large Varsity State Championship and the UCA National Championship.

The team received an invitation to be honored from the House of Senate after its successful season and was recognized during a Senate meeting. Wayne Langerholc, Pennsylvania State Senator for the 35th District, spoke on behalf of the Crimson Crushers to the rest of the Pennsylvania Senate. He made various positive statements about the squad, its accomplishments, its work ethic. The team was invited to sit on the floor during a live session of the Senate, which was incredibly special.

In addition to Bishop McCort, other local teams and athletes were recognized. A three-time State Champion wrestler was in attendance as well as the Pee Wee National Cheer Champions.

The team was provided lunch, which was courtesy of the Senate. According to BMCHS senior cheerleader Keyli Smith, “The food was excellent!” Throughout the day the Crushers met various senators and received a tour of the capitol building. The tour was educational as it included historical information as well as an opportunity to see the Senate offices. “It was a very cool experience touring and learning all about the Capitol,” said BMCHS senior cheerleader Andrea Flynn.
